Other Common Conditions
It is common for osteopaths to see a range of joint injuries, in particular of the hip, knee and shoulder. If the injury is more acute (lasting a few weeks or less), then treatment is aimed at improving circulation to decrease swelling and promote tissue healing, as well as helping the joints return to normal movement range as soon as possible (1).
In more chronic conditions (more than 6 weeks duration, for example hip tendonitis), then treatment focuses more on reducing muscular tension and restoring joint motion in local and distal areas to accommodate the changed dynamics due to the injury (2, 3). Relevant exercises will also be given to assist strengthening to aid full recovery.
